Three Things Thursday: Uraboku

3 more things I've learned from watching.... Betrayal Knows My Name

1. Some magic battles are silly. For example: being attacked by butterflies and fighting back with feathers. Yeah, I thought the images were beautiful but I couldn't overcome the irritation. Will have to watch it again to figure out why.

2. Tripping can be wonderfully convenient when you want your super hunky demon lover to catch you... I'm clumsy, can I have some of that too please? (yes, he has a big sword too)

3. Teenage superheroes can be quite troublesome once the villains are vanquished. Then they just turn back into normal bratty teenagers.

Okay, so I ended up posting about  Betrayal Knows My Name more than I expected. Turns out that through the ups and downs of this series, I really enjoyed the ride. I highly recommend at least checking it out. Especially if you enjoy angsty vamp type stories and don't mind being teased by a boy-love theme.

Six Sentence Sunday: Blood Justice

Some things were out of their control, a hard concept for his kind to accept. Seemingly just as difficult for Lyna.

Her tears slowed not at all, but the wracking sobs eased until her face turned up and her gaze slammed into his. “I hate you. You’ve destroyed everything I hold dear. Why can’t I kill you?”

This Sunday my six are from Blood Royals 3: Blood Justice. Available June 4, 2012 with Liquid Silver Books.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Despite their long history of combat he’s sure that only Lyna can offer him a future worthy of his past. He’ll either burn as the rogue demon he’s become or redeem himself through the flames of her passion. His only hope is to bind them together with a deal that could destroy them both.

Three Things Thursday: Uraboku

3 more things I've learned from watching.... Betrayal Knows My Name

1. There is a certain very definable appeal of a hero (or villain) with a big.... sword.

2. Unconsummated love affairs get annoying after a while.Yes, even Scully and Molder.

3. Sometimes the good guys winning is just unrealistic.Maybe, just maybe, they could stand a chance if they would shoot first and save the pity lines for later. As it is the bad guy have to stand around and wait to be killed. Yeah, too annoying. Made me rant to hubby for a while.

Six Sentence Sunday: Blood Justice

Sadaen ignored the pain in his body. It faded with every heartbeat. All that he could focus on was his angel. She’d proven without a doubt that he wasn’t meant to die. With every strike of her deadly blades, she’d saved him.

And the hate and despair in her face tore him apart.

Three Things Thursday: Uraboku

3 more things I've learned from watching.... Betrayal Knows My Name

1. Big words from baby heroes **should** end in them getting their snotty-nosed asses kicked. It might sound harsh but when a brand new wet-behind the ears kid starts spouting trash, I just simply hold my breath waiting for the smack-down.Then giggle with glee...

2. Being saved by the bad guy is always a nice change of pace. This is one I will remember for writing. Characters (even bad guys, maybe especially bad guys) need to be complex. As long as it makes sense eventually I really got a thrill when they acted up and did the unexpected.

3. Good and evil come from the heart and mind, not from the blood and genes... I know there are stories that can pull off the born evil theme, but I just prefer seeing how the (past) events mold the characters' personalities and actions.

Six Sentence Sunday: Blood Justice

His fingers brushed her jaw, thumb rubbing over her lower lip in a quick caress that had her flinching and jumping back from the fiery touch. “If you fail to kill me, I win your body, your passion. Three times you can try. Three times I will lay claim my prize.”

“And if you die under the first attack?”

“Then it is as it should be, and we will both finally discover peace.”

Three Things Thursday: Uraboku

3 things I've learned from watching.... Betrayal Knows My Name

1. There is no such thing as too much angst. If (and a big if) it's done right. In this case, Angst comes with great backstory and rockin' music.

2. Tsukumo and I have the same eating habits. How come he's so skinny? Oh yeah, right. He's animated and my snacks have three d calories.Bummer.

3. Sodom is one cute little demon!

This is my first 3 things post. Right now I'm just testing the waters but if I like the format this may become a regular thing. Hope you enjoy a glimpse at my entertainment in little bites of three random thoughts.

An excerpt from the book
Prologue
Niflheim, Land of the Dead, A Long Time Ago

Dead.

Raylina, his wife and mate of countless centuries, was dead and gone. Sadaen’s demon heart cried out at the unexpected cruelty. How could she be taken? Why? Questions swirled through him, but each was a knife slashing through his soul.

Holding her lifeless body tight, he let the pain flood over him, out from him, did nothing to restrain it or keep it from destroying everything around him. He welcomed the rising darkness and let it whirl outward and consume the royal chambers, reaching farther, filling the marbled halls with his pain, suffering and loss. Roaring in anguish, he told all in their realm the queen was dead.

Time ceased to exist. With Raylina gone, the only truth that mattered was he had failed her, let her die, might as well have killed her. His demands had designed the end for her. Even if he hadn’t been the one to drain her soul away, he’d brought her here. He’d expected her to fill a role she’d never have seen if not for him.

His gaze landed on the Tascrina pendant resting so peacefully over her still heart. That misshapen trinity symbol and all its unwanted responsibility. How dare it touch her now after all it had done?

It had been the last of the holy weapons she’d created. The last and the greatest, a creation filled with so much of her soul that the forging of it had stolen her life. It was one weapon the Fathers of Trinity would never touch.

He resettled her carefully and unclasped the delicate chain, removing it from her narrow pale neck. When his fingers brushed the pendant, fire burst over his skin and up his arm, burning agony. And he welcomed it. Enfolding the warm metal in his fist, he held on, rocking his mate, holding the fire, and despising the fates.

Minutes or perhaps lifetimes later…

Fingers tightened over his shoulder. He looked up and met the glistening gaze of Raylina’s young sister, Delyna.

“Dear Creator.” The whispered words sounded less prayer and more curse than he’d ever heard pass the angel’s lips before. “How could she be gone? What happened?”

He couldn’t hold her blue gaze. Far too like Raylina’s. Yet behind the blue crystal, the young angel looked just as lost as he felt. It was more than just their similar blue eyes. He felt exposed before Delyna. She’d seen the truth. She’d seen his guilt.

Instead, he brushed back the curly dark hair from Raylina’s face. She’d been his fallen angel, living here in Hell and loving his demons like her own kin. She had given up everything to take on a duty never meant for her or her kind.

She’d done it all for him.

And she’d died because of that choice.

“Sadaen.” Lyna’s voice cut across his pain, ripping the wound open wide. “Sadaen, she’s gone.”

He held his mate tighter, denying the truth he didn’t want to face, wasn’t strong enough to face.

“She must be taken home.”

“You can’t have her!” he snarled at her. Black power twisted in angry tendrils along the floor. Unlike the mortal souls he and his demons worked to protect, Raylina would not be reborn. She, who could have lived forever, was now gone forever. And because of the damn holy men, the Fathers of Trinity, she could not even return to the Creator. She was forever lost, with her soul broken and trapped within their damn weapons.

“You can’t stop this, Sadaen.”

“How could you understand?” Young Lyna had been born to this new age. She might be Raylina’s sister in every way that mattered, but she couldn’t possibly understand how cruelly the world worked.

“How can I understand?” Lyna’s voice echoed angrily off the chamber walls. “She was the only family I ever had. Without her I wouldn’t even be accepted to my calling. Even with her support I face ridicule every day. Without her in my life… Without her, I have no purpose, no joy and no hope of better days. So don’t you dare tell me I can’t understand pain and loss.”

He heard it all, but it didn’t matter.

Her voice was iron. “I’m taking her soul. You can’t stop me.”

Pain, grief, and guilt warred within him. So long as his mate was in his arms it wasn’t real. It could be changed. “I can fix this.” He could control time and space and everything in between. Surely he could still save her.

“Sadaen…”

“Leave it be, child. You can’t have her soul. Not now, not ever.” Settling Raylina’s body onto their bed, he devoured the beauty of her face for several long minutes before finally leaving her and the realm behind.

Six Sentence Sunday: Blood Justice

Finding Sadaen was far easier than she’d expected.

His dark magic rippled out across the realms like tides. And in the center of his maelstrom waited complete and utter devastation. She found him standing still as a statue with his immense red and black wings whipping out behind him. His black power twisted outward in search of any remaining life, and it found none.

She knew this place, knew what it had been, and would have been if given enough time to grow and bloom... the newly risen holy place had been torn back down to the earth.

First Kiss Friday: Blood Justice

“Wait! You can’t do this to me. You can’t just decide to not let me fulfill our bargain. Don’t you understand what failure means? Do you even give a shit if I’m killed for your whims?”

Of course he cared. He cared too damn much. Lyna had become his reason to live. She’d kept his passion for life alive long past any he could find on his own.

“Answer me, Sadaen!”

“Or what? You’ll kill me? Seems to me you keep trying.”

“Damn right I will, and the next time I try, you will be ended. What do you think about that?”

“Most days I’d call that a blessing,” he whispered up at the statue of Raylina portrayed with the widespread perfect wings, which she’d given up to be with him. Not that she’d lost her wings. No, but they’d darkened to black, never again to glow that pristine white.

“What did you say? Can’t you even look at me while casting my life aside?”

He looked.

Her angry flushed face looked slightly up at him. Her eyes glittered, and her fists clenched. With power whipping around her blowing hair and feathers wildly, she was gorgeous. “You’ll be punished too. If my suffering means nothing, then think about your own.”

Why couldn’t he take her? It was wrong, yeah, but refusing was wrong too. Wasn’t it? And if there were no right choice, then why couldn’t he offer them both pleasure? With the damage already done, why not at least show her what real passion could be? Should be?

He grabbed her hard in his arms and crushed her mouth under his own, devouring her in a long demanding kiss, so deep it stole as much as it gave.

She didn’t kiss him back. She didn’t struggle.

He took and took from her, letting the kiss be as wild and ferocious as he wanted, as he needed. It was wrong, and it felt so damn right.

Shoving her away, he sucked air into lungs that had forgotten how to breathe. Every cell in his body screamed to kiss her again, take everything she offered, take more than she offered, take everything she was.

Destroy her, like he had her sister.

White feathers danced on the wind, swirling around them. Her feathers, torn free by his violence.
