I did it. As much as I have going on, I signed up for NaNo. I must be slipping ever closer to insanity. I am still debating over what story I will use for the challenge. I would like to use Forgiven as 50,000 would put it darn close to done. The guidlines say you shouldn't use a story that is already started. If I want to stick to that exact wording then I could work on Forgotten which is the story of what happens to Dain, Saxxon's brother. I've got a pretty good idea of plot but haven't written a single word of text. Which for me is amazing. Usually I jump right in and doodle out a couple scenes before bouncing off in another direction.
The good news is that I won't likely be able to stay on task with only one story going, so I could call Forgotten my NaNo novel and work on Forgiven whenever the mood hits me. Maybe it could even be a reward, for reaching dayly goals... maybe.
Well here goes. November here I come...

November 4th and so far I've only written a couple pages. To reach my total goal of 50K in one month I broke it down into more manageable terms.
ReplyDelete50K/Month < 14K/week = 2K/Day
2K = roughly 4 pages.
With that motivation in mind, I will jump in tonight and try to make up for this week and give myself a cushion for the next work week.
A 20/day goal over the weekend should get me back on track and completely on easy street.
Here's a bit of a funny coincidence from my research...
ReplyDeleteIn Father of the Wolf, Sgrios nicnames Dan, Prince of Weird.
I just tracked down some otherwise useless information about the history of the word weird... Beowulf uses the word wyrd to mean 'fate' (Dan in Gaelic means fate). Shakespeare used weird in 'Macbeth' as the first use of present spelling.
Kind of wish I had planned this to happen... lol. but its still very cool.

Okay, so I totally can't add. At least I can't before 8 a.m. I just read over my first comment and it proclaims that I only have to write 4 pages a day to read my goal.
ReplyDeleteHog wash! 2000 words is closer to 8 pages that need to be written each day. That said... I am not doing too badly with my Nano goals.
Today being the 11th, I should be more than a third of the way done, right? RIGHT! So I have written 110 pages of my personal goal of 300. 100 pages actually comes out to ... let me see... 1000 words = 4 pages so ... 100 pages = 25,000 words? I think that's right. Which puts me at the halfway point.
WOOO HOOO!!

writing to... falling back to me? Sweet song, but I'm not sure who sings it, lol, or it's real title.
It's November 27th and I am not on track.
ReplyDeleteOn Friaday, I wrote over 5000 words, more tham 24 pages leaving my final count at 171 pages and 35000 words.
Yesterday, I wrote less than 3000 words.
So today I have to write 7000 words to get back on track. YIKES! Don't think I can do it but I'm off to try. I only have 3 more day.

Writing to a johnny depp interview.
3 days to go, counting today.
ReplyDeleteMy plot has pretty much run out and I'm not sure what else could be added. The kitchen sink is already in there three times. LOL
I've started to go through and add descriptions to my scenes. Those details that add all the texture and depth never make it into my first draft. Technically, since I'm adding those, I guess this counts as editing.
This part is much slower than dumping all that action and dialog down that I filled 178 pages with. But never the less, I'll jump in and write what I can.
I'm currently working on page 28. My goal for today is to crest the 200 page mark with my totals. I have 187 currently. 13 pages, doesn't seem so much... I can do it!

writing to ... not sure but it's kind of wimpy. I think I'll put on some Seether and Disturbed...
10:30 and have 38,915 words and 185 pages.
